Typically, when kids sleep with their dolls, they tend to talk with them behind closed doors. The parents have no idea what they talk about. Our idea is that when the kids talk with their dolls, the authorized parents will get a notification on their smartphone and they will be able to hear their kids in real time.

Lets say the kid said: "I am very tired today". The dad can hear this message on his smartphone wherever he is - say office or TV room. Now, the dad can reply back into his smartphone Oben app that: "I know. Now, lets go to sleep and we can play again tomorrow". But when these words come out of the doll in real time, they will be in the voice of the doll itself. So the kid will think that the doll is actually talking to them. That way, the kid can talk very freely without any inhibitions.

Some added enhancements to this doll:
1. A minute camera can be in the eye of the doll which can convert this doll into a surveillance device that parents can use to not only talk with the kids but also monitor the kids

2. We can use pre-programmed educational tutorials to teach kids different things such as languages and math.

The doll will need to be connected over wifi and will be very securely connected to the Oben cloud.

This is an interesting project. How will security be handled? One concern I would have is the possibility of others hacking into the bear and being able to communicate with and see the baby.

Shawn - this is a very important question, indeed. Our goal will be to retain some top security experts to ensure to ensure that all the communication between the doll and the kids and parents is encrypted and secure. We intend implementing the latest security measures to ensure that. On top of that, we intend using device fingerprint of parents to ensure that the user is indeed the intended one and as a measure of authentication. We take security really seriously. Please let me know if you have further questions on this.

Also, would the bear be able to translate voice from baby into text on the phone? It would make it easier for people to review when they are in an area where they are unable to listen.

Thats a great idea, Shawn. Yes - we could not only have the text available for you to read on your smartphone which will be a transcription of the kid's speech so that you could read it in the convenience of say your office in the middle of a meeting. But we could also enable a text reply which will be read out to the kid in the voice of the doll's character again.

Sounds like a good idea, this would provide children with a building of communication skills at a young age.

I really like the idea. One concern of mine would be the safety of the bear and preventing any innapropriate communication with the child

I believe that this teddy bear could very well be used for teenagers. Teens who are struggling in school with either their grades or social life could feel safe talking to a bear about their issues. They would be able to hear advice that would help them push through their struggling.

This sounds really cool! I know my little cousin (age 4) would love this. Especially if the stuffed animal were like a character from Frozen with the voice from Frozen. Great idea!
